If you want to add another group exercise discipline to your skillset, our level 2 step exercise to music instructor training could be just what you're looking for.
Our level 2 step exercise to music course is an essential addition to any group exercise professionals’ repertoire, particularly those instructors who enjoy the freedom of teaching freestyle ETM classes without the hefty license fees or burden of remembering somebody else’s choreography.
Many of our students on this programme, although not all of them, have actually been teaching step-based group exercise ‘informally’ and ‘unofficially’ for some time using their Level 2 Exercise to Music qualification, but now see the benefit of gaining an appropriate and specific qualification in this discipline. From an insurance perspective, it would certainly be a loophole if somebody were to injure themselves.
This energetic and engaging course includes a wide range of theoretical knowledge and practical skills that can be applied in the studio to create a fun and lively atmosphere in which your participants can exercise safely and effectively using a step box.
The choreography used in the course is pitched at varying levels of difficulty to ensure that all participants can engage in the class at an appropriate level for them.
The award version of this step exercise to music course is specifically designed for qualified fitness instructors that hold a full Level 2 qualification (e.g. exercise to music instructor).
If you don't currently hold a full level 2 fitness instructor qualification, you will need to select the Certificate version of the course, which will cover more generic level 2 units, such as anatomy and physiology, health, safety, and professionalism in a fitness environment. These units will already have been completed by those with a full-level 2 fitness instructor qualification.
The Certificate version of the course will carry an additional fee to cover the cost of the extra units. So, when you complete this qualification as a Certificate, you'll be awarded with a full Level 2 Certificate in Group Exercise Instruction (step exercise to music).
To enrol on this step instructor course you will need to possess a recognised Level 2 Fitness Instructor Qualification, ideally in an exercise to music context. We also recommend that you have a keen interest in, and some practical experience of, performing step exercise to music. Certainly throughout your study period, you will need to attend a few classes or get plenty of self-practice in.
The Level 2 Award in Teaching Step Exercise to Music (Step Aerobics) is certificated by YMCA Awards and delivered online via a blend of supported home-study and on-demand practical workshops. At the end of the programme, you'll submit a video of you teaching a step exercise to music class and our team of assessors will mark this and provide you with feedback.
This course includes all the study materials and resources that you need to achieve this qualification. The course is delivered primarily online, with downloadable eLearning content, choreography notes and handouts, to help you get the best out of your training experience.
There are also a number of online practical workshops for you to watch and participate in. Participation is key here to ensure you are assessment ready.
On completion of this step instructor programme, you'll have the confidence and qualifications to be able to teach step-based group exercise to classes large and small. Whether you want to set up your own classes locally, or work in a health club environment, you'll be more than ready and eligible.
You might also want to consider some additional training to be able to teach other styles of group exercise. Our range of
yoga teacher training courses or Pilates instructor courses are incredibly popular with our group exercise graduates.
Throughout your studies and beyond, our dedicated team of Learning Support Tutors will be available to give you a helping hand whenever you need it. All our courses are designed with your success in mind, which is why our development team focus on making our course content as easy to navigate and as simple to understand as possible.
